About Us
Originally located on Keng Lee Road, Nanyang Pho Leng Hui Kuan moved to Geylang in 2017. Turning into Lorong 27A, Geylang, visitors are greeted by the impressive nine-storey Puning Building, home of the Association. This marks the fifth premises since the Association’s founding, symbolizing a significant milestone in its growth and development.
The building is thoughtfully designed, with each floor serving multiple purposes:
- Ground Floor – Yan Shan Hall: Serving as the welcoming lobby, named in honor of Mr. Fang Yan Shan for his outstanding contributions to the Association. Most major events are held here, combining formality with convenience.
- Third Floor – Ning Yuan Ancestral Hall: Reserved for members to acquire spaces for ancestral tablets or “Longevity & Prosperity” plaques. This reflects the cherished tradition of honoring one’s ancestors, a value upheld by the Chinese community. Annual ceremonies are held here during the Winter Solstice, and other traditional festivals such as Qing Ming, Zhongyuan, Mid-Autumn, and Lunar New Year attract many members to pay respects, reinforcing community bonds.
- Fourth Floor – Ping Hai Hall: This hall, named after Mr. Xu Ping Hai in recognition of his generous support, serves as a meeting and guest hall. It also houses classrooms for cultural courses such as Teochew opera, Teochew music, and calligraphy, as well as spaces for club activities and social gatherings. To honor past pioneers who generously contributed to establishing the previous clubhouse, the Hall displays commemorative plaques named after nine distinguished contributors.
- Sixth Floor – Banquet Hall: A spacious venue available for rental by community and religious organizations, also providing equipment and facilities for various events.
Today, the Association has nearly 600 members spanning three generations of Puning natives. Committed to promoting Teochew culture, the Association regularly offers classes in Teochew opera, music, and calligraphy, enriching members’ cultural life and fostering strong community ties.
